Patriotic Search

37-48.gifGoogle doodles are the whimsical changes that Google makes to their logo in honor of special events, holidays, and memorials. Recently, Google celebrated the anniversary of the launch of Sputnik with a doodle. As a result, conservatives (evoking past spirits) are up in arms claiming that Google is not patriotic enough.

“When [Google] ignores Veterans Day and Memorial Day, I think they’re telling us something about the way they view America,” said Joseph Farah, editor of WorldNetDaily.com, a conservative website that has criticized Google’s logo decisions. (from the LA Times article)

Extending an olive branch across the aisle, I put together a version of Google that should satisfy the conservatives’ desire for a more patriotic search engine. It’s fixes Google’s unpatriotic results by giving greater weight to government websites, like Whitehouse.gov.

You can play with it here.
