TinyURL PageRank
Here’s something new I learned today:
Someone asked me today how TinyURL works with respect to PageRank… Like, when you add a TinyURL to a Twitter post, does TinyURL get the Google PageRank love, or does the final destination site get the Google Juice?
Turns out TinyURLs returns an HTTP code of 301 (Moved Permenantly). And, according to this SEO site, it sounds like 301s are handled smoothly by PageRank. The Google love is passed through to the destination of the 301.
So TinyURL is Google safe. The geek in me thinks that’s pretty cool.
