Asobi Seksu’s Citrus
When I first heard Asobi Seksu’s Citrus I was a big fan, but for some reason or another it never entered heavy rotation… until last week. This album managed to get inside my head, and now I can’t satiate my desire to listen to it no matter how hard I try.
It’s got this great element of distorted chaos masking energetic pop melody. Feels intricately out of control. And, the vocals pull me in like a siren’s call.
Nothing can explain it better than listening to it, so here’s New Years, track three off of Citrus.
I can’t believe no one out of 109 top ten lists picked Citrus as their favorite album of the year. Maybe it took awhile to really infect others the way it did with me. Or maybe people don’t think it’s as good as I think it is right now… I hope it’s the former and not the later.
Update: Asobi Seksu are coming to NY on Feb 21. I’ll likely be there.

Big fan. I saw them live with Dengue Fever last year, it was hot. Not a Top 10, but I did mention them here http://capital-risqueur.blogspot.com/2007/01/2006-quickie-music-retrospective-part-2.html

Thanks for the recommendation, I really like this and didn’t know it existed. It’s My Bloody Valentine but perky.
