You should check out Taqueria y Fonda la Mexicana. It is located right by Columbia @ 968 Amsterdam. It is definitely worth the ride.

The environment isn't the best (really just a small Taco Stand & 10 tables) but the Burritos are to die for.

I feel the same way about Seattle. We have one good place, but there is always a line and it usually takes at least 45 minutes to get in. You would think that would be an indicator for some enterprising restauranteur to open something similar.

In the end I wonder if Chipotle will help prime the market for more authentic fare. At least it shows people that not all Mexican is smothered in red sauce and cheddar cheese.

Toby, you rock! You have me salivating on the keyboard as I type. I went to Los Gallos three times a week (the good one at 5th and middlefield, not the other bigger crapier ones) while working at Homestead. A place like that would be a license to print money in NYC.

Mmmm, Los Gallos. I used to live by 6th ave & Middlefield (we would rollerblade/skateboard in the Homestead parking lot). Definitely a lot of great Mexican to choose from.
