Will Surfer Rosa ever get old? I’ve been listening this album about twice a month for 3+ years. To say it was “ahead of its time” is a disgrace on so many levels:

1. The triteness of the expression.

2. The understatement of how far ahead of their time the Pixies were when they recorded it.

3. The Pixies were such a huge inspiration on today’s indie-rock scene, so it makes perfect sense that music today sounds like a rehash of the Pixies. Duh.

But bands like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The White Stripes, and hell, even Weezer (one of my favorite bands because they recorded Only In Dreams) are still trying to get both as raw and hook-laced as the Pixies in the Surfer Rosa era, but without success.
