A New Level of Nerdiness: the Fluxx T-shirt

teamkeepershirtphoto.jpgWhile at Stanford, I attended one of Eric Roberts board game nights. I’m a nerd, I admit it. Eric is a professor of Computer Science, CS education advocate, genuinely nice guy, and proud owner of 200+ board games. He brings a few games to a dorm that hosts him; it’s a great way to procrastinate from studying if nothing else.

At this board game night, I learned about a game called Fluxx. It’s a card game where the rules of the game constantly change as you play. At its core, it’s a game of taking turns drawing and playing cards. The goal of the game and the details of the rules (how many you draw, how many cards you can hold, etc) are constantly in flux, hence the name. It’s pretty fun once you get the hang out it. The game won a Mensa Select award. Again, I’m a nerd.

Yet, there is a wide range of nerdiness out there in the world. At a rest stop on a recent trip to New York I saw a guy wearing the shirt on the far left (the “cookie” shirt). It’s a giant blow up of a card from the game, a special type of card called a “Keeper” card. Once I saw the shirt, I searched for a picture of it online and this is what I found.

I said “nice shirt” to the guy at the rest stop. He returned the gesture with a socially awkward nod and started walking faster. As a fan of Fluxx, I’m in no position to judge, but It feels good to get out-nerded once in awhile. Get your shirt for $16.
