I have a couple friends from high school that put a band together called The Channels.  I haven’t seen them play yet, but based on these mp3s (click turn off your popup blocker and click “Sound”) that they made available for download, I would love to catch them live. Some songs are straight indie rock, obvious based on the “obligatory Pavement cover” they have available on their site.  However, other songs tread closer to Powerpop… closer to a cross between poppy Beatles and Cheap Trick than any indie rock.  The production quality varies, across the album, but it’s easily forgiven after a couple listens.  The hooks on this album are so addictive you would think they were smuggled into the US from Columbia.
