I spent the last few days in NYC, my new home… but I am homeless. I’m squatting on a futon of a relative on the upper west side, which I really appreciate. The purpose of the trip is to look at apartments, interview for jobs, and catch up with old friends. I have three interviews while I’m here, but all my friends are out of town, and I’m still recovering from sticker shock in the rental market, so I’m 1 for 3.
In other news, I’ve been stalking a startup that a friend of mine at Stanford created. It’s a product of StartupSchool ‘05. The company is Flipt, and raised a $5 mil series A from Sequoia. They’re still in stealth mode, but I just noticed some activity on their domain. They used to have a small site up, but now they have gone back completely underground (Error 403 appears upon browsing). Good for them, I smell a full-blown site coming shortly. Once I get an internet-capable cell I will looking forward to trying their product out. Sam Altman, the CEO, was kind enough to give me a brief demo at Startup School. All I saw was mobile mapping capabilities, I sure hope Google Maps for Mobile (and the recent acquisition of Frappr) doesn’t put the squeeze on Flipt. Go Sam!
